Coding School Bitmaker Labs Lands ‘Substantial’ Investment Led by Russell Square Partners
Bitmaker Labs has received a “substantial equity investment” from a group led by Russell Square Partners, a Toronto-based investment firm.
The investment will fund new curriculum development, additional teachers, and improvements to the firm’s flagship location in downtown Toronto at King and Simcoe, according to Bitmaker Labs, as well as “future geographic expansion and further course development in internet and technology disciplines.” The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Bitmaker Labs also made management changes. Cofounder Andrew Mawer will assume the responsibilities of president. Bitmaker Labs has brought on Craig Hunter as Chief Executive Officer. Previously, Hunter was an early employee at Uber. Bitmaker also promoted Julie Haché to Chief Technology Officer. Haché brings software and engineering experience from her prior role as a developer at Shopify working on its core application.

Founded in 2012, Bitmaker Labs is Canada’s largest coding boot camp.
