A Canadian Startup’s Beginner Guide to Navigating Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley is a land of opportunity for thousands of startups, but it’s also cutthroat—you won’t survive in the wild for long if you don’t know the lay of the land.

George Favvas, a Canadian entrepreneur who moved to Silicon Valley in 2011, gave a presentation to the current FounderFuel cohort “on the things I wished I knew before moving to the Bay area.”

“It’s been a year and a half since I moved to Silicon Valley (well, San Francisco, actually) from Montreal. I get a lot of questions from Canadian entrepreneurs—both visitors as well as prospective immigrants—about how to navigate Silicon Valley,” Favvas says.

It’s worth checking out the slideshow he used for that presentation here, which discusses the costs of moving, the debate between angel money or venture capital, and whether to settle in San Fransisco (Twitter, Airbnb) or South Bay (Facebook, Google, Apple).
