Kirk LaPointe Will Take on Gregor Robertson for Mayorship of Vancouver This Fall

Posted by Techvibes NewsDesk

Kirk LaPointe has confirmed he will be the NPA's mayoral candidate in the fall election in Vancouver.

LaPointe is a longtime media executive and former CBC ombudsman. He hasn't announced any specific campaign goals but says there is a need for greater transparency at city hall.

The mayoral candidate has previously held senior positions at The Vancouver Sun, National Post, and CTV News. LaPointe is the underdog against current mayor Gregor Robertson, who has been popular in his post since 2008. Robertson has actively supported the city's tech startup scene during his tenure, though not without some odd controversy.

LaPointe and his wife, Mary Lynn Young, live on the UBC campus, where Young is a faculty member.

The election is in November.
