Mobile Gaming Startup Lands $2 Million in Seed Funding

Victoria-based mobile gaming startup TinyMob Games announced this morning that it has raised $2 million in seed funding from local angel investors including Adrian Pereira, Don Wharton, Elton Pereira, Myron Pereira and others.

Founded by Alex Mendelev, Chris Hoefgen and Jamie Toghill just two months ago, TinyMob Games develops free-to-play midcore strategy games for mobile devices, such as iPads and iPhones.

TinyMob’s goal is to become the leading maker of free-to-play strategy games for mobile devices and they expect to release their first game next spring.

“TinyMob Games is going after an exciting and rapidly growing genre in the gaming industry,” said Michael Doyle, Vice President of Interactive at 20th Century Fox. “With a strong strategy and a wealth of experience, I am excited to see how they will influence the industry in the years ahead.”

Founding partners Mendelev, Hoefgen and Toghill are veterans of the gaming industry. Mendelev and Hoefgen were instrumental to the success of Backstage Games, a Canadian pioneer in free-to-play games on Facebook, acquired by RealNetworks in 2010. Toghill has worked with video game industry leaders such as Electronic Arts, Disney Interactive, Hasbro, Interplay Productions and MicroProse.
