Ryan Holmes and Mike Edwards Ranked Among Vancouver’s Most Powerful People

This week Vancouver Magazine published a list called “The Vancouver Power 50 2013,” a ranking of the West Coast city’s 50 most powerful people.

The top three won’t shock readers: BC Premier Christy Clark, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, and billionaire business magnate Jim Pattison. And while the list is primarily dedicated to those who carry some level of political clout, a couple of names big in the startup scene earned mentions.

Ranking 23rd, Ryan Holmes is the founder and chief executive officer of HootSuite, a social media company that is rapidly becoming an anchor in Vancouver’s tech space. HootSuite has more than seven million users, recently raised a massive $165-million financing round, and is hiring like crazy.

Clocking in at 43rd is Mike Edwards, the chief executive officer of LX Ventures, a publicly traded technology accelerator that acquires and accelerates high growth technology companies. Like Holmes, Edwards is a serial entrepreneur who always has his foot on the gas pedal.

Another fellow in the technology space who made the list is Darren Entwistle, the CEO of Telus, one of Canada’s three major telecommunications firms. Telus is also behind the Telus Garden, a gigantic development currently under construction in the heart of downtown Vancouver, which will include hundreds of residential units and plenty of office space for companies like Amazon.
