Toronto’s Scalability.ca Offers Businesses Remote Back Office Solution

Toronto-based startup Scalability officially launched on Wednesday, looking to provide businesses and startups with back office services for everything that encompasses accounting, administrative duties and human resources. Essentially, they really want to “take care of this stuff so you don’t have to.”

And this is great news for growing companies and creative businesspeople that don’t want to get bogged down with the sometimes overwhelming amount of paperwork that comes along with running a business. Instead of getting lost in those boring yet necessary back office functions, Scalability’s services allow businesspeople to focus more of their time and energy on actually building their business.

It also really helps take the pain and confusion out of outsourcing various administrative functions of the business on a freelance basis. Their expert team takes care of all of it, using custom-built software to get everything done.

Founded by Raymond Luk and Ange Tancock, Scalability is a spin-off business of Flow Ventures, a top Canadian consulting firm for early stage ventures.

“We are back office experts and startup experts. We not only take care of your admin tasks, we monitor your business so things are taken care of before problems arise,” Luk wrote in a Wednesday blog post on the Flow Ventures website, announcing the launch of Scalability. “Scalability operates remotely and in the cloud. Every file is archived digitally. Every transaction is logged. We’ll even open and scan your mail if you want us to. Best of all, you always have a human being you can talk to with any questions or special requests.”

Monthly package deal subscriptions are available and Scalability is offering free evaluations for businesses that are interested. The Startup package is $699 a month and is geared toward funded startups and SMEs that are beginning to bring in some revenue. The Scale-up package is $1,999 a month and was built for startups that have been backed by VCs or businesses bringing in revenues of $500,000 more.

Of course, they also offer additional premium back office services for an hourly rate, which can be ordered on an ad hoc basis. Everything from hiring or firing staff to legal representation at board meetings can be done through Scalability. And although they’re making the promise to take full responsibility of all back office duties when you outsource with them, business owners still have complete control over everything and nothing is done without their initial consent.

The kind of startup boom we’re seeing right now should definitely give Scalability the chance to expand nicely, especially given the fact that not every entrepreneur is an accounting whiz or tax expert, nor do they really want to spend the time and effort mastering those functions.

Luk told BetaKit that they’re hoping to expand Scalability to the US after its Canadian launch. In fact, he even has future plans of going global, so his startup can cater to businesses that operate internationally as well.
