Freshbooks, a Toronto-based online invoicing service, recently released an APIthat allows customer account data to be accessed using standard HTTP and XML, and gives programmers the ability to integrate web and desktop applications with the Freshbooks platform. Some of the first programs created include a client enrollment plug-in that allows customers to sign up with Freshbooks on a separate web site, along with an employee project management add-on application. Xpenser, another app created by a San Diego firm, allows users to create invoices from mobile devices. Freshbooks is also, according to an article in IT World Canada, looking towards using the help of University of Toronto students to create Google widgets that reside on top of the Freshbooks API.
