After years of law school, you’d hope that lawyers would know everything, right? Well, not so much. Building a legal practice is less about the law, and more about thorough practice administration. This is an especially heavy burden for the 80% of law firms in North America consisting of less than ten lawyers. Luckily, Themis Solutions has developed Clio, a software-as-a-service solution that automates and simplifies the logistics of managing a law practice. The solution handles file management, client management, time tracking, billing, calendaring, and document management. Interestingly, Themis was formed out of a partnership with the Law Society of British Columbia (LSBC), a partnership which afforded them the opportunity to leverage a large base of beta users, and refine their solution. Clio launched its public beta last month, and expects to ship its first version in June 2008.
