Curt Cherewayko of Business in Vancouver was kind enough to cover our Digital Media People to Watch in BC in 2009 list this week’s issue. In an article titled Rising stars gaining visibility on new media horizon, Cherewayko helps spread the word about Techvibes while highlighting a couple of the local tech stars we’ve pegged for news in 2009.
There’s nothing like the promise of outside investment capital to light a fire under an entrepreneur.
Vancouver-based technology blog Techvibes.com is shining a light on some of the entrepreneurs in Vancouver who, after courting investors, shaping business models and developing web platforms, are gearing up for success – or perhaps failure – in this year.
In creating its list of digital media people to watch for 2009, Techvibes is trying not only to predict what the next success stories will be in Vancouver’s Internet startup cluster, but also highlight some of the Vancouver entrepreneurs who will be feeling the heat from their investors this year.
Contributors to the Techvibes blog, which gets about 65,000 visitors a month or 200,000 page views, post information and news about 11 technology communities in North America.
Techvibes president Rob Lewis, who created the list with input from the site’s roughly 15 Vancouver-based contributing bloggers, noted that companies that are backed by outside capital have higher expectations than other startups.
Lewis believes 2009 will be a make-or-break year for some entrepreneurs on the list.
“They’ve raised money, and either they’re going to go big or fail big,” said Lewis.
Thanks to Cherewayko for the great coverage.
