Waterloo’s Open Text announced today that it has acquired Vizible Corporation, a privately held Toronto-based company with expertise in digital media technology that will complement Open Text’s product portfolio.
Vizible provides tools that help deliver multimedia content (video, audio, graphics and photography) across a range of display devices such as cell phones, PDAs, and web browsers.
Open Text is best known as a global leader in electronic content management software, or ECM, which originally was primarily text-based documents. But Open Text has also staked out a leading position in digital asset management (DAM) for organizations, offered as part of the Open Text ECM suite. Among Open Text’s customers are BBC, Wal-Mart, Time, Discovery Communications, Paramount and HBO.
Open Text said Wednesday it will add the Vizible team to its own Digital Media Group. Vizible employees will remain in the Toronto area at Open Text’s office in Richmond Hill.
“Our acquisition of Vizible adds powerful tools and digital media expertise to the Open Text ECM Suite, and will play a central role in the development of new, innovative digital and social media solutions,” said Scott Bowen, president of Open Text’s Digital Media Group.
Financial terms weren’t included in today’s announcement.
