Everybody loves strong communities. Most people like social media. Luckily for us, they go great together!

Wired Woman’s “Building Community with Social Media” event aims to “discover the value of, and learn effective strategies for, building a community through social media in an exciting, interactive round table discussion.”

Wired Woman pitches the question: What is community in relation to the web? And it answers: “Community is beyond a blog and a few people following you on Twitter. This event will help you realize what the new meaning of an online community is, and why it holds an important spot at the new marketing table.” The event is for anyone who is familiar with the basics of social media, knows about the tools, but is struggling to use them effectively to reach or build a community – whether an executive, small business owner, or an employee looking to make a difference in their organization.

Among the five experts who will be speaking at the table is Briana Tomkinson. A passionate New Westminster resident, Briana is the co-creator of the popular hyperlocal blog Tenth to the Fraser, and is also a marketing strategist for Fjord West.

The event takes place Monday, June 14, 2010, from 5:30pm – 9:00pm, at UBC Robson Square, Room C550, 800 Robson Street, Vancouver. Tickets are $35 members and $40 for non-members (membership is free). Click here to buy tickets.
