Mingleverse names FriendFinder and Eventbrite veteran Jack Mardack as VP of marketing

Mingleverse has announced that Jack Mardack, of Eventbrite and FriendFinder fame, will join their operations as vice president of marketing.

As well, Mingleverse announced the members of their board of advisors. The board consists of:

  • Dr. Sidney Fels, director of the Media and Graphics Interdisciplinary Centre at the University of British Columbia
  • Neil Trevett, vice president mobile content at NVIDIA and president of the Khronos Group
  • Derek Kerton, board chairman of the Silicon Valley Telecom Council

It looks like some big names have taken note of Mingleverse. Mingleverse, for the uninitiated, is a graphical chat program that uses “rooms” of avatars to make free conference calling with VoIP possible. Mingleverse hopes to compete against other such services by working across more platforms (including desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones) and many browsers and keeping bandwidth requirements low. Mingleverse is based in Vancouver and recently attracted seed funding from Yaletown Venture Partners.

Having someone like Mardack join the ranks is a big move for Mingleverse. In addition to his work at Eventbrite and FriendFinder, Mardack also founded Proton Cannon, an e-marketing and web development consultancy. He also sits on the board of directors of San Francisco Court Appointed Special Advocates (SFCASA), a non-profit that assists with the recruitment and training of foster care consultants for children unable to find a permanent family in the San Francisco region.

“Mingleverse is uniquely positioned at the intersection of broadband telecommunications and social networking, fulfilling the desires of both consumers and professionals to converse and collaborate more immersively with friends and colleagues,” said Mardack in a press release. “I’m thrilled to join the Mingleverse team and to lead the marketing efforts of this important new service.”
