Social Web browser Flock announced this evening that they have been acquired by social gaming giant Zynga.

Flock was founded in 2005 and is based in Redwood City, CA, but has an office in Victoria, BC where half of it’s 40 engineers work. No word yet on whether ‘Flock North’ would still call BC’s capital home after the acquistion.

Flock CEO Shawn Hardin blogged that the deal is a “perfect fit” and that “Flock will help Zynga in achieving their goal of building the most fun, social games available to anyone, anytime – on any platform.”

Flock’s social browser allows users to access their social networks while browsing other websites. Hardin said in his blog post today that Flock had 10 million users worldwide – certainly not significant considering Zynga’s userbase.

TechCrunch suggested today that Zynga, Twitter, and Google were all trying to acquire Flock’s engineering talent and that the Flock product may be shelved entirely.
