SilkStart secures Angel round and launches with Vancouver Board of Trade

According to Vancouver-based startup SilkStart, there are over 2 million membership-driven organizations and associations in North America. My guess is that there is more, but a market of 2 million prospects is a great place to start.

SilkStart is a membership management platform that helps organizations get more happy members and sell out more events. SilkStart makes it easy for anyone to create an online membership community while eliminating the pain to do any costly back-office work.

Competition in the membership management space is fierce with incumbents like YourMembership and Tendenci charging thousands of dollars to help organizations reduce operational and marketing costs. 😐

North of the border Toronto’s Wild Apricot promises “Member Management Magic” but SilkStart still sees a huge opportunity in the space.

SilkStart’s mission is to revitalize associations and membership organizations around the world. SilkStart believes that a well-equipped association can change the world by empowering its members and volunteers to easily communicate and connect with one another to make a difference.

Looks like they’re well on their way locally with the Vancouver Board of Trade and Small Business BC signing on as early customers.

SilkStart was co-founded by Daniel Chu and Michael Coughlin and recently secured a Angel round from Vik Khanna and Pankaj Agarwal.
