Poynt, the location-based search application, has just gotten more useful — for BlackBerry and Android, at least.
The BlackBerry version is now utilizing Eventful to provide information about local events like concerts, festivals and sporting events. You can use Poynt to search by performer, venue, date or category and get local results for any of those categories.
The results provided by Poynt include information like maps, photos, relevant websites, venue seating charts and performer information. As well, Poynt’s existing features allow users to add events to calendars, get directions or share them with friends.
“Events are the heart and soul of local communities everywhere and we are excited to make this enhancement to Poynt’s robust feature set by giving users access to this information,” said Poynt CEO Andrew Osis in a press release. “The new Events feature is key to our vision of bringing the user a true all-in-one local search experience.”
One thing that’s a little puzzling is why Poynt chose to exclude iPhone from the initial launch. The iPhone is supposed to be the phone for people having fun, so why wouldn’t a search engine for fun things like concerts and sports want to be on the iOS?
