Earlier this month Techvibes included Sandy Ward and his startup HomeZilla on our Digital Media People to Watch in 2011 list for Ontario.

Toronto-based HomeZilla launched in 2008 as “a one-stop shop for neighbourhood information for Canadian home buyers”. Two years later Ward has partnered with media giant Transcontinental to help them transform the real estate sections of their 26 newspapers online and off.

Last week the first of those 26 papers went online. The New Glasgow News began running a new real estate package with in-paper listings and an interactive online tool for house shopping.

While the traditional in-paper listings provide readers with a quick glance at what’s available in Pictou County, the real magic is online thanks to HomeZilla. The web-based tool allows people to search for specific features including cost and location as well as identify where the property is compared to schools, shopping areas, parks and more.

And the online element will carry the listings as they are put up for sale, making it one of the most up-to-date sites for finding properties in Pictou County.

HomeZilla will be launching with more Transcontinental newspapers in February.
