Waterloo’s Research In Motion has acquired Sweden’s JayCut for an undisclosed sum.

RIM will use the video editing company’s technology in the BlackBerry PlayBook. JayCut, based out of Stockholm, has seven employees.

“By working with JayCut to add video editing capabilities to the BlackBerry platform we can further enrich our customers’ multimedia experience with BlackBerry,”  David Yach, RIM’s chief technology officer, wrote on the company’s blog.

Video editing software makes sense for RIM’s tablet, given its dual high-def cameras, rich playback, and the ability to connect to televisions.
