Earlier this week Shopify’s Harley Finkelstein penned a guest article over on Fast Company about his new role of Chief Platform Officer.
Finkelstein tells the story of joining the Ottawa startup founded by Tobi Lütke and being tasked by Lütke to create and develop his own unique position at the company. Lütke’s leadership and vision were the reasons Finkelstein had joined Shopify in the first place, so he took the task seriously and architected his own hybrid role of Chief Platform Officer.
Shopify now powers 16,000 stores in 79 countries around the world that have conducted tens of millions of transactions to date. In July Techvibes reported that Shopify’s e-commerce platform was responsible for $124 Million in Gross Merchandise Volume in 2010 and rung up $95 Million in the first half of 2011.
Shopify was founded in 2006 and has over 60 employees. In December Shopify announced that they had raised $7 million in Series A funding from Bessemer Venture Partners, FirstMark Capital, and Felicis Ventures.
Techvibes TV‘s Michelle Sklar sat down with Lütke at the GROW 2011 Conference last month for an update.
