Waterloo’s Vidyard raises $1.6 Million, investors include co-founder of YouTube

Waterloo-born video startup VidYard was one of five Canadian companies that participated in the Under the Radar conference last week.

Today they announced that they’ve raised $1,650,000 from Softech VC, Y Combinator, SV Angel, Andreessen Horowitz, iNovia Capital, and a handful of angel investors. Among those angels is Jawed Karim, a Co-Founder of YouTube.

Vidyard is a video marketing platform for businesses, consumer brands and content producers.  Businesses can use Vidyard to manage the success of their content and target their most engaged users. Consumer brands can use it to automatically push video content to their social feeds and analyze the success of each “channel”. Content producers can leverage VidYard technology to help their clients get more out of video and enable a recurring revenue model.

In short, the Vidyard platform provides professional, ad free video hosting, along with real-time analytics, instant start technology, fully customizable calls to action, and seamless syndication to YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

VidYard was part of startup incubator Y-Combinator’s Summer 2011 class and was named as one of five to watch by GigaOm from the class of 63 startups. The Next Web covered the genesis of VidYard in August and you’ll likely be surprised to learn that it includes designing toilets.
