Not long after Twitter decided to put promoted tweets in non-followers’ streams, Facebook has now determined it’s a tactic worth copying. Probably realizing absolutely no one clicks or even sees the ads on the far right of its interface, Facebook is rolling out in January “Sponsored Stories,” which will appear in your news feed like a friend’s status update.
According to a spokesperson, “you will only see Sponsored Stories in your news feed about your friends or people you are connected to.” And according to Facebook, only one such ad should appear in somebody’s news feed per day.
The social network hasn’t pegged any pricing for these news feed ads. They will mark the company’s first foray into mobile advertising.
