Microsoft has big plans to become a major media player in 2012, a fact they discussed at this year’s CES technology trade-show. Some of the media partners mentioned are understandably for an American only audience, such as Comcast’s Xfinity TV, Wall Street Journal, AT&T’s U-Verse, and Fox News.
That being said, there will be some wider audience entertainment channels as well, such as IGN and Fox, so you can keep up with shows such as New Girl, Family Guy, House, and Glee.
The real surprise though, was Microsoft’s decision to bring region-specific content to users, apparent with shout outs to Telefonica, a content provider entrenched mostly in Europe and South America, as well as Canada’s Own Telus.
According to Engadget, Microsoft have been open about a few more Northerly brands, that should be reaching your console screen today. Younger audiences can now watch the Disney XD channel, provided by Canadian company Astral Media, while sports fans can watch the Real Sports channel, a product of Maple Leaf Sports.
The press release went on to state that these offerings are only the beginning, and eventually there will be more content than you can yell a Kinect at:
