Those browsing Twitter via the mobile web and mobile apps will now find Promoted Tweets in their timelines. This is notably well ahead of Facebook, who has so far failed to capitalize on the potential monetization of 400 million mobile users.
Like Facebook, advertising accounts for the vast majority of Twitter’s revenue. The micro-blogging platform generated roughly $140 million through advertising last year, according to eMarketer estimates, and that number is expected to grow by 86% to more than $250 million this year.
