Research In Motion has acquired U.S.-based Paratek Microwave for an undisclosed sum. The Waterloo-based BlackBerry maker purchased Paratek, a “leader in antenna technology,” because its skill set “complement RIM’s in-house mobile technology expertise,” according to a statement issued by RIM.

Paratek, founded 14 years ago, has 59 employees. RIM won’t be moving them to Canada, according to the Financial Post.

“Paratek will continue to innovate and to bring leading edge adaptive tuning solutions to the industry,” Ralph Pini, chief executive of Paratek, said in a brief statement online. “We look forward to working with our new colleagues and integrating our solutions into RIM’s BlackBerry product offerings.”
