Toronto’s Piccsy officially launched today. Many readers will be familiar with Piccsy as their “beta” version has been sitting in the number five spot on our Toronto Startup Index for months. Piccsy is hitting the ground running (thanks to being in beta since July 2010) with 3.5 million visitors accounting for 30 million page views per month and an average time on site over six minutes.

Piccsy has largely been under-the-radar but mostly because they have been below the equator. Piccsy was the first Canadian company to take advantage of Startup Chile and spent six months in Santiago as part of the pilot program.

According to founder Daniel Eckler, Piccsy’s users are more male-skewed and creative than the average Pinterest user and more focused on image discovery (cleaner design, bigger images, etc.) than social. That being said, he also claims that they are one of the top 20 sources of images on Pinterest.

In addtion to founding Piccsy, Eckler was the founder of EveryGuyed.com, which sold in late 2011, and is the co-founder of Vizualize.me. Eckler has assembled a photo-friendly advisory board which includes Matthew Rothenberg (ex-head of product at Flickr) and Bruce Livingstone (ex-SVP at Getty Images, founder of iStockPhoto).
