GoInstant has confirmed the acquisition.

“Today we are announcing that GoInstant has agreed to be acquired by salesforce.com, the enterprise cloud computing leader,” the startup writes. “We are beyond excited to join this family.”

Joining the enterprise cloud computing leader will allow us to accelerate our mission. Not only will we continue to advance our technology, but with salesforce.com’s support, we will be able to super charge our ability to deliver a truly amazing way for companies to engage and interact with consumers in real time. We will have more resources, and be able to reach more customers, faster.

“The GoInstant team has built incredibly sophisticated technology,” says Parker Harris, co-founder of Salesforce. “We will help them scale and grow so that social enterprises everywhere can engage with and delight customers in totally new ways.”

ORIGINAL: Halifax’s GoInstant, which burst out of stealth at TechCrunch Disrupt in September last year, is going to be acquired for more than $70 million by Salesforce according to a report from the Wall Street Journal that cites “people familiar with the matter.”

Founded in 2010, the Canadian startup has raised $1.7 million from investors including Reid Hoffman, Yuri Milner, former Facebook exec Chamath Palihaptiya, Baseline Ventures and Freestyle Capital.

GoInstant’s CEO, Jevon Macdonald, is also a cofounder of Startup North. The startup has just 12 employees.

Salesforce seems to like Atlantic Canadian startups, as it famously acquired New Brunswick’s Radian6 last year for $326 million.
