Ottawa-based game developer RocketOwl has been certified as a B Corporation. This makes it the first company headquartered in Ottawa to achieve B Corp status.
Certified B Corporations are a new kind of company. RocketOwl describes them as companies “with a positive vision of a better way to do business.” As a Certified B Corporation, RocketOwl voluntarily meets a higher standard of transparency, accountability, and performance, “harnessing the power of business to solve social and economical problems,” the Canadian company explains.
“We’re tremendously excited to be part of a B Corp movement,” said Jasvinder Obhi, COO RocketOwl. “At RocketOwl, we care more about just a single bottom line. We think there is a better way to do business, and want the games we develop to reflect this by positively contributing to our society and our planet.”
Anyone can observe the mobile and social game developer’s stats on its B Corp page located here. According to its page, the startup combats global warming by planting trees based on players’ in-game achievements and has an office-wide recycling program. In addition, all employees own stock options and the startup focuses on using sustainable and local suppliers.
RocketOwl was founded in 2010.
