200 million members, including seven million Canadians, used LinkedIn’s search tool nearly six billion times last year.
Unfortunately, the professional social network’s search tool isn’t that amazing. But the company hopes to change that with a new, smarter version.
“Search on LinkedIn is getting even smarter and more streamlined,” product manager Johnathan Podemsky writes in a blog post. “We’ve unified the search experience so you no longer need to search for people, companies, or jobs separately.”
“Now, all you need to do is type what you’re looking for into the search box,” he continues, “and you’ll see a comprehensive page of results that pulls content from all across LinkedIn including people, jobs, groups and companies.”
Other features being added to the search tool include auto-complete, which intelligently suggests search terms as you type, and a “smarter query intent algorithm,” which means the more a user searches for content on LinkedIn, the more it learns and understands their intent over time to provide relevant results. Perhaps the coolest feature, though, is automated alerts, through which LinkedIn saves searches and alerts users when the results of those searches change.
