The Future. Innovation. Technology. Creativity Conference (FITC) made its way to Toronto last week bringing insights into digital creation. Over a three-day period, Toronto’s creative community came together to hear from a mix of local and international speakers innovating in the space.
Talks took place in three streams technical, creative, and business. With over seventy presentations and workshops there was no shortage of sessions for attendees to choose from. If you missed it, here is a sample of the presentations available at this year’s event.
On the technical stream, Topher Bullock from Xtreme Labs argued that theories developed by philosophers such as Augustus De Morgan, Plato, and Immanuel Kant can be applied to agile engineering. He demonstrated how the principles behind theorems such as De Morgan’s laws and Occams Razor can be used to resolve common challenges faced by agile engineers.
Irene Pereyra and Anton Repponen from FI talked about their creative process when designing the USA Today website. They shared details about their pitch (design a site that looked like it belonged on an iPad), their discovery process (follow journalists around for three months), the rejection of their first concept, and the steps they took to recover from their first concept and present the concept that is used today.
Dan Mall presented the idea of prototyping business strategies the same way designers and developers prototype ideas and concepts in their own work. He used his transition from working full-time at an agency to working for himself to test out client billing strategies, create a foolproof contract, and develop client relationships.
Xtreme Labs, a sponsor of the conference, debuted a second screen experience called the #XtremeScreen. The second screen was made up of a series of android devices set up as a digital wall capable of splitting images, video, and even interactive experiences. They showcased the screen by setting up a virtual game of memory. The devices responded independently as players touched the screens looking for a match.The #XtremeScreen demonstrated the next step in technology and consumer engagement in the second screen experience.
This was another successful conference for FITC and definitely a worthy three-day investment for those working in the digital creation space.
