Assuming Apple and Google approve the app submissions, BlackBerry Messenger will be coming to iOS and Android this summer, the smartphone pioneer announced at BlackBerry Live today.
The free messaging app, which currently has 60 million active users on the BlackBerry platform, sees more than 10 billion messages sent daily, according to the Waterloo-based company.

For iOS and Android users, BBM will initially be limited to messaging and groups. However, a future update that will add BBM Voice, screen share, and channels is planned.

“The time is right for BBM to become an independent mobile messaging platform,” Heins told his BlackBerry Live audience. “We are making the BBM platform more powerful than ever.”
