Apple’s App Store was launched on July 10, 2008.
To celebrate the fifth birthday of the wildly popular iOS marketplace, Apple is offering several major apps for free, including the critically acclaimed game Infinity Blade II which normally sells for $6.99. Some of the free apps cost up to $20 normally.
There are a total of 16 apps available for free through the limited-time promotion, most of which are universal (meaning they work on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch).

In the five years since the App Store launched, Apple has paid developers more than $15 billion from app purchases. Apps have been downloaded over 50 billion times in total.
