Six startups representing Canada have have SXSW’s list of 48 finalists for its Accelerator Competition, which this week was whittled down from 500.

Canada made a strong showing in the Wearable Technologies category with three startups: Toronto’s Bionym, Montreal’s Mighty Cast, and Toronto’s Kiwi Wearables. Bionym was a finalist in this year’s Canadian Startup Awards.

Montreal’s PPLCONNECT is a finalist in the Social Technologies category; Montreal’s Synbiota is a finalist in the Innovative World Technologies category; and North Vancouver’s Plantiga is a finalist in the Health Technologies category.

The 48 startups will pitch on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 at the Hilton Downtown Austin.

“The level of innovative ideas that were submitted made it very challenging to pick the top companies for each category,” said SXSW. “It is an honour to invite these finalist to be part of SXSW 2014 and we congratulate them for their forward thinking ideas.”
