One-third of North American smartphone and table owners plan to use mobile apps to follow the Sochi Winter Olympics.
The data comes from SOASTA, which specializes in cloud and mobile testing, and who this week announced the results of its “Sochi Olympics Second Screen Survey.” Conducted by Harris Interactive, the survey reveals 32% of mobile owners will use their devices to check event results, while 22% while use them to watch highlights and 22% will connect with the olympics via social media through their smartphones and tablets. Just 13% will actually live stream Olympic content though.
Of the 34% that plan on using apps during the event, social media, including Facebook and Twitter, ranked the highest (21%), beating out news (15%), and sports (12%) apps.
SOASTA’s data backs up findings from last month that show how second screen is becoming quickly integrated into the overall sports viewing experience, especially with a younger demographic.
