Apple bolstered its lineup for the cost-conscious consumer today.

First, it added an 8GB version of the iPhone 5C for roughly $60 cheaper than the 16GB version. Unfortunately, this move is for “select countries,” a list which Canada does not appear to be on.

However, the second announcement has already taken effect in Canada: Apple is replacing its antiquated iPad with the iPad 4 as its older, cheaper option. The iPad 4 is much faster, boasts a Retina display, and has an improved design over the iPad 2, but thankfully Apple is keeping the price the same at $399.

“Now for $399 customers can get iPad with a stunning 9.7-inch Retina display, fast A6X chip, and 5MP iSight camera, offering a dramatic upgrade in power, performance and value compared to the iPad 2 it replaces,” gushed Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

“The iPad line sets the gold-standard in mobile computing and all iPads have access to the largest and best ecosystem of more than 500,000 iPad optimized apps from the App Store,” he added.
