Google has acquired Songza.
The software giant picked up the music playlist streamer for a rumoured $15 million, a paltry sum compared to the $4 billion valuation of Spotify and the $6 billion market value of Pandora, two loosely comparable services.
Google likely didn’t buy Songza for its subscribers—a modest six million or so—or its revenue, but rather its curation technology, which it will look to integrate with its Google Play Music All Access subscription service.
“We can’t think of a better company to join in our quest to provide the perfect soundtrack for everything you do,” Songza said of Google’s acquisition.
No immediate changes to Songza are planned, “other than making it faster, smarter, and even more fun to use,” according to the company.
