The world’s largest social network has hired a former BlackBerry executive.

Facebook hired Andrew Bocking to lead its new Internet.org mobile app. Bocking left BlackBerry in February.

At BlackBerry, Bocking led the Canadian smartphone maker’s instant messaging app, BBM. At Facebook, he will fill the role of product manager, overseeing the Internet.org app. Bocking will report to Guy Rosen, Internet.org’s product management leader.

Internet.org’s app aims to provide free basic internet services, such as Google Search and Wikipedia, to developing nations.

Bocking worked for BlackBerry for more than 13 years.
