BrainStation to teach 2,500 Canadians to Code for Free During Computer Science Education Week
BrainStation will be opening the doors of its innovation hubs across Canada to the public for Computer Science Education Week with the goal of teaching over 2,500 Canadians how to code.
And thanks to sponsors like Konrad Group and the City of Toronto, this initiative will be absolutely free.
BrainStation’s new 20,000 sq ft Toronto campus, at the corner of King and Spadina, opened to the public this month, replacing the iconic Backpacker’s Hostel. BrainStation’s Vancouver campus in Yaletown opened earlier this year and both locations will serve as public learning centres from December 7-13.
“Our workshops are for anyone and everyone. Every Canadian needs to understand the basics of web development and technology in order to compete in 2016 and onwards. It’s not necessarily about becoming a web developer, it’s about comprehending what’s possible and approaching digital problems with a new level of confidence and comprehension,” says BrainStation Founder, Jason Field.
BrainStation welcomes mentors from the booming tech communities to join them in teaching the fundamentals as a way to give back to their cities. Participants can enrol online for free but need to bring their own laptop if they would like to participate during the workshops.
