iNovia Capital Strengthens Western Canada Investment Team

iNovia Capital has brought on Hugues Lalancette as a Senior Analyst for his insights into the Canadian financing ecosystem.

“Hugues brings strong analytical experience to our investment team,” says Shawn Abbott, Partner at iNovia. “His insights were invaluable during the recent raising and closing of our new $175M fund, and we look forward to bringing the benefits of his expertise to our portfolio companies.”

Prior to iNovia, Hugues supported several tech startups in CFO and advisor roles, where he developed a passion for financial modeling, fundraising, deal structuring, lean analytics and growth accounting.

Previously, Hugues had the opportunity to work on numerous billion-dollar capital market transactions as an Analyst at BMO Investment & Corporate Banking Group.

“iNovia is unique among venture capital firms, both in its approach to investing and in its embracing of the distributed team notion,” Hugues said. “But the deciding factor for me was when I saw how iNovia interacts with its portfolio company executives – one of the few firms to actually deliver on the promise of bringing more than just money to the table.”

Hugues Lalancette will be based in Vancouver.

Earlier this year, Dan Freedman, former VP of Security Products at McAfee, joined the firm’s investment team. Prior to iNovia, Freedman was lead mentor at Blue Startups, a Hawaii-based accelerator behind the Startup Paradise brand.

“I am tremendously excited to join the iNovia team, a band of individuals who have collectively developed one of the strongest and most interesting portfolios at any fund,” he said in February.
