Google is Training Two Million Android Developers For Free

Google just launched a program to train 2 million developers in India, specifically for its Android platform and at no cost.

Peter Lubbers, head of developer training at Google spoke in New Delhi on Monday: “We are hoping to get in about 2,000 different universities, training about 4,000 faculty to reach in excess of 250,000 students in these universities every year.”

Although the country currently has an estimated 2 millions developers, only a quarter of them are developing on the mobile platform, said Caesar Sengupta, vice president of product management at Google. With this push, India will reach 4 million developers, overtaking the US with the largest developer population in the world, which Google sees as an important part of its future.

“We believe India is uniquely placed to innovate and shape the internet experience of billions of users who are and will come online on the mobile platform,” he said in the statement.

These free programs are not new for Google. In April of 2016, the company committed to train a combines one million African people in digital skills within the next year.
