Man Driving While Playing Pokémon Go Kills Pedestrian in Japan

In what is believed to be the first death linked to Pokémon Go, a driver playing the game collided with two pedestrians this week, killing one of them.

The incident occurred in Tokushima, on the western Japanese island of Shikoku. According to the Wall Street Journal, the women were crossing the street when struck. The other woman suffered a broken hip but is alive.

Nintendo and Niantic both shared condolences for the victims’ families.

Pokémon Go’s loading screen features obvious signage which strongly encourages players to be aware of their surroundings at all times and remain alert to the real world.
