Drone Management Software Startup Raises $26 Million in Round Led by Microsoft

A company that develops air traffic management software for drones has raised a sizeable round a group of notable investors.

AirMap, which now provides its services to 80% of all drones, has secured $26 million in a round led by Microsoft Ventures with participation from Qualcomm, Sony, and others.

The two-year-old firm will use the influx of capital to expand internationally. AirMap intends to open offices in Germany and at the NASA Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley.

AirMap has now raised more than $43 million since it was founded in 2015.

This is also marks one of the first times we have seen Microsoft express serious interest in drones; indeed, the company confirmed AirMap will leverage the company’s resources, including artificial intelligence tools.
