Quupe Launches Peer-to-Peer Rental Marketplace for Household Items

A new startup wants to redefine the use, re-use and cost of everyday items. Quupe—proncouned “koop”—is a peer-to-peer rental platform for household items.

Based in Vancouver, Quupe targets young, urban adventurers who want access to equipment, but might not want to spend the money to buy it.

The app is currently available as a web platform with plans to release iOS and Android versions. Quupe features geolocation, image recognition, payments, delivery, messaging. The system also has a rental price calculator to help you determine effective pricing. Payments are made through Stripe. Quupe charges a 20% fee per transaction and provides lenders with a $1,000 guarantee, should something happen to the item.

“People here are active, interested in green initiatives, and don’t have a lot of space to store things that they may only use a few times a year,” cofounder Angela Hamilton says of her decision to launch in Vancouver.

Alongside Hamilton, Quupe was cofounded by Amanda Shou, Vijay Ramaswamy, and Zeeshan Rasool.
