Apple Bolsters Music Streaming Platform with ‘House of Strombo’ Series

Apple is slowly but surely building out its Music streaming service to be a platform for more than just songs.

The company launched Apple Music with music videos, but beyond that, visual content as been minimal, and sources have suggested repeatedly that the tech titan wants to develop original video. The first example was “Planet of the Apps,” a reality show that follows the creators of mobile apps.

The latest example is “House of Strombo,” a 10-episode concert series Apple launched this month. Hosted by acclaimed interviewer George Stroumboulopoulos, the series features a combination of international legends and upcoming artists across a variety of music genres, all playing live shows in George’s downtown Toronto home.

“The bands set-up right in my living room, with a live audience packing the place. Lights, smoke machines and amplifiers stacked high—it’s every gig in a small space that you’ve ever loved, with the best bands in the world,” says Stroumboulopoulos.

The series is available to Apple Music subscribers but is also being published on YouTube. The first episode featured Canada’s own Juno-winning DJ collective A Tribe Called Red.

Stroumboulopoulos  joined Apple Music as an exclusive curator. In that role he will curate weekly custom playlists to help fans discover and enjoy music.

This series is being produced by Son House Productions.
