Google Home Learns to Recognize Different Voices
Google Home is getting smarter. Google has added multiple voice recognition to its connected home device so that the speaker can distinguish between the different voices of family members.
“We’re adding the ability for up to six people to connect their account to one Google Home,” explains Yury Pinsky, product manager for Google Assistant. “So now when I ask my Google Assistant for help, it can distinguish my voice from my wife’s and I can hear my own personal playlists, my own commute time, my own schedule and more.”
The feature, which initially will only be available to US customers, requires a process to teach Home each different voice. It’s not that it distinguishes different voices no matter what one says, however—Home is taught only to understand how different people summon it with “Ok Google” and “Hey Google.”
Pinsky says the feature will roll out in the UK in “coming months.”
Not everyone will support this change, though—for example, Burger King’s latest advertising campaign just became less effective.
