Fourth-Annual National Girls Learning Code Day Takes Place This Week

Ladies Learning Code, a national not-for-profit offering beginner-friendly tech education, this week announced the fourth-annual National Girls Learning Code Day.

Taking place on May 13, the event will see 650 girls aged 8 through 13 attend workshops in 29 communities across Canada.

On that day, hundreds of Canadian girls and their parents will come together to challenge themselves to learn a new skill: animation.

“These young women are our future leaders and we hope the girls are inspired by National Girls Learning Code Day to learn more about future careers in the incredibly interesting digital space,” says Dubie Cunningham, Vice President of Innovation at Scotiabank’s Digital Factory, which is sponsoring the event.

Since 2011, Ladies Learning Code has been a pioneer in the national effort to increase digital literacy among Canadian women and youth. The organization today boasts a full suite of internationally recognized digital literacy programs, including Teachers Learning Code, and a cross-country initiative, Canada Learning Code Week.
