Lyft Releases First Diversity Report

In March, the controversy-riddled Uber released its first diversity report and, typical of Silicon Valley tech titans, the company’s workforce was mostly male and mostly white.

This week rival Lyft released its own diversity report. The company has a higher percentage of white employees than Uber (63% vs 50%) and a higher percentage of females (42% vs 36%).

“Lyft is built on the power of community, and we are committed to creating a workplace that is able to best serve this community—for team members today, and in the future,” the company said in its report.

There are fewer females in leadership and tech roles at Lyft, which again is in line with most technology firms.

“We’re committed to creating a workplace where being yourself means having a voice, advancing your career, and making an impact,” said Lyft cofounder Logan Green.

Lyft promises to release a new diversity report each year to remain accountable to increasing the diversity of its employees.

“Holding ourselves accountable to an annual report is just the first step in an extensive, purposeful process toward creating a truly inclusive company culture,” said cofounder John Zimmer.
