B.C. Entrepreneur Helps Fund Summer Coding Camp for Girls

A local entrepreneur has helped fund a technology camp for young girls at a post-secondary institution in BC.

2015 Canadian Startup Awards Angel of the Year Shafin Diamond Tejani, founder of Victory Square Technologies, established a $75,000 fund this week to match donations from other individuals. This fund and those donations will fuel Victory Square Girls Tech Camp, hosted by Simon Fraser University at two elementary schools just outside of Vancouver.

“I am so proud and honored to be able to assist SFU and Surrey Schools with this important initiative,” said Tejani. “The camp is a great way to reach girls at a key age when they begin considering options for their future.”

Victory Square Girls Tech Camp gives Grades six and seven girls hands-on workshops in fundamental computer programming and engineering skills.

“Together we can champion STEM with girls through creating curiosity, celebrating accomplishments, and giving them the confidence to grow and excel,” added Tejani.
