PayPal Announces Partnership With Skype To Easily Send Money

The new ways for people to conveniently transfer money just keep coming and coming.

PayPal has just announced a new partnership with Skype that allows users of both to send and receive money in over 20 countries. In order to access the new feature, you must be using the Skype mobile app.

This is a massive agreement for PayPal as Skype has been downloaded over a billion times and boasts more than 300 million active monthly users. The process is simple, as all you have to do is be in conversation with a friend or family member, hit “Find” then select “Send Money.” Just confirm your amount and you are all set, which means it might be easier than ever for crafty students to get some pizza money from their parents during Skype check-ins.

The service is only meant for friends and families—not for business transactions. Rates are the exact same as using the normal PayPal transfer methods as well, meaning no fees if you send from a debit card or your account balance, but small fees if you use a credit card.

This announcement comes on the heels of a few other major partnerships from Skype, including Android Pay, Siri integration, and even iMessage and Slack enabled payment methods.

Features like this serve to remove the redundancy of having to open multiple apps or login to different accounts. This is a trend a number of companies are adopting, as many users gravitate towards using singular wallets or passes to address all kinds of mobile payment solutions.

The new Skype and PayPal partnership launches today in the US, Canada, UK, Germany and 18 other countries.
