The Simple Non-Political Reason Twitter Will Never Ban President Trump

America’s far-left has been clamouring for Twitter to ban Donald Trump from its platform. The reasons are unclear—he does not technically violated any terms. But regardless of their motives, Twitter is unlikely to do this for one reason above all. And it has nothing to do with politics.

Put simply, it could kill the company.

Losing Trump means slashing Twitter’s value by a staggering 20 per cent, which would reduce its market cap by multiple billions of dollars, according to an analyst from New York’s Monness Crespi Hardt & Co.

Analyst James Cakmak believes Trump’s exit would spur a mass exodus; indeed, the sizeable posse of POTUS opponents who counterattack his every tweet make up a significant portion of the social network’s user base and daily activity on the platform.

“There is no better free advertising in the world than the president of the United States,” Cakmak, who has a neutral rating on Twitter’s stock, told Bloomberg.

Donald Trump has a whopping 36 million followers. And he’s extremely active on the platform, having tweeted more than 35,000 times since he joined in 2009.

With Twitter still struggling, the hard truth is that the company probably needs President Trump more than he needs them.
