Edit Anywhere with Adobe’s Cloud-Based Lightroom

Photographers will no longer need their desktop to access Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. It’s going on the cloud.

Adobe announced an all-new Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC cloud-based photography service today at their MAX 2017 conference, allowing photographers to edit, organize, store and share photos from anywhere. The new digital photography application will be accessible on mobile, web and desktop.

The new Lightroom CC is a full resolution version of the original desktop-only application, but with some upgrades. Using the cloud-based app, photographers can make edits on one device and have those changes automatically synchronize across all devices.

“As the leader in digital photography, today Adobe is unveiling Lightroom CC, our next generation photography service,” said Bryan Lamkin, executive VP of digital media at Adobe. “Lightroom CC answers photographers’ demand for a deeply integrated, intelligent, cloud-based photography solution.”

Lightroom CC is also harnessing Adobe’s machine learning technology. Adobe Sensei will help users better organize their photograph collections by automatically applying searchable keywords rather than tedious manual tagging.

Adobe highlighted a host of new features including a streamlined interface with easy-to-use sliders, presets and quick adjustment tools, and a built-in sharing option to post photos directly on social media platforms.

Using cloud storage instead of a computer’s hard drive, Lightroom CC users don’t have to worry about the soul-crushing “no available storage” warning popping up. The app has scalable storage options for the backup of full-resolution photos and raw image files.

Lightroom CC is available for both iOS and Android. Whether a device is powered by iOS 11 or Oreo, users can access the built-in search functionality powered by Adobe Sensei, keyword support, and hierarchical album support. Apple’s iPad will power an enhanced app layout, whereas tablets will feature a local adjustments brush.

The cloud-based digital photography app is a part of Adobe’s Creative Cloud Photography plans ranging from $9.99 to $19.99 USD per month. Users that are truly mobile-first can access the Lightroom Mobile plan for iOS and Android along with 100 GB of storage for $4.99 USD monthly.
