Ladies Learning Code Rebrands to Target All Canadians

Ladies Learning Code, a national non-profit once geared towards teaching women and girls beginner technology skills, is rebranding as Canada Learning Code.

CEO Melissa Sariffodeen said the change represents the organization’s expanding scope and vision to attract a more diverse group of Canadians.

“At Canada Learning Code, we believe that digital skills are tools of empowerment. Our goal is to ensure that all Canadians – particularly women, girls, people with disabilities, Indigenous youth and newcomers – who have been historically underrepresented in the sector are given equal opportunity to build our future,” she said.

The former Ladies Learning Code was founded by four women over six years ago and offered technology workshops in Toronto meant to attract women and girls. The local workshops rapidly expanded to a cross-Canada initiative, and today there are more than 30 chapters from coast to coast running five different programs and representing 80,000 learners.

The rebranded non-profit has reaffirmed its goal to create 10 million technology learning experiences for Canadians over the next ten years.

“We envision a future Canada in which all people have the knowledge and confidence to harness the power of technology for personal or professional fulfillment,” said Sariffodeen.

The news of the name change coincides with the official opening of a new headquarters and community space in downtown Toronto.
